The 'Year of the Holy Spirit'
"It seems good to the Holy Spirit and to us..."
- Acts 15:28
May the Risen Lord Jesus continue to shower the Holy Spirit upon us afresh in our time and place. May the Lord say to us in mercy: “Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn, you have great faith”.
Most Rev. Christopher Prowse Archbishop of Canberra & Goulburn
The Archdiocese of Canberra & Goulburn is celebrating the Year of the Holy Spirit, a time to gather, discern and embark on new frontiers of evangelisation.
As we set out on this year together, and building upon the foundation of the Year of Walking Together (2022-2023), we invite all to explore what is means to become a synodal Church, grounded in our shared understanding of evangelisation: encounter, discipleship and mission.
Synodal evangelisation requires patience and discernment to the subtle directions of the Holy Spirit in our midst. What might seem to some as a lack of practical progress may not be so. Waiting for the reign of God takes time for us to embrace fully.
In many ways, the Archdiocese is walking on the same path as the first Apostles. It took time for the early Church to discern and declare: “It seemed good to us and the Holy Spirit” (Acts 15:28)
All the Gospel, to all the world, all the time.

Moving towards an Archdiocesan Assembly to gather, celebrate, discern and go out on mission in the Archdiocese and beyond.

Evangelisation
At the heart of Year of the Holy Spirit is developing the vision and reality of synodality and evangelisation in our Archdiocese. This includes defining our common understanding of evangelisation as encounter, discipleship and mission.
